By Editor 2022, December

As serene as the water on frozen Lake Montauk, this “hidden gem” of a season is the perfect time to find tranquility in the natural beauty of the East End. The crowds have gone, but the locals know this is the best time of year to curl up with a good book and an excellent glass of Scotch or wine and let the world melt away. Science has proven that we are more successful individuals when we take time to indulge in peaceful experiences. Montauk is the perfect place to let the stress of the real world go and allow the calming vibes to wash over you. You will emerge with renewed energy, ready to take on the busy challenges of life.

From guided hikes and horseback rides to wine tasting and shopping, Montauk offers everything you imagine and more. Our dedicated concierge team is also available to assist you in planning your itinerary and arranging the details for your one of a kind escape. We've got a lot of activities to offer both on property or close by.

SEAL WATCHING

Hop aboard the fast and luxurious 125-foot Viking Superstar for a ride to the pristine areas of Plum Island, Great Gull Island, and Little Gull Island for breathtaking views of Harbor Seals, Grey Seals, and perhaps Harp and Hooded seals too. Every trip is narrated by a professional naturalist.

WOLFFER ESTATE

Nothing goes with a snowy day in the Hamptons like a glass of full-bodied red wine. The tasting room at the estate is the center of activity and a place of tranquility. A wall of French doors open to the stone terrace where you can savor wines, converse and listen to music while drinking in the view.

ICE SKATING

Embrace the freeze and head to Buckskill Winter Club, which offers the only outdoor, NHL regulation-sized ice rink in the Hamptons. You don’t need to be a pro to hit the ice here. Visitors of all ages can enjoy this winter oasis for ice skating, broomball or just a cup of hot chocolate in front of their huge firepit.

HORSEBACK RIDING

Saddle up and explore thousands of preserved acres of spectacular coastal land. Established in 1658, Deep Hollow Ranch is the oldest cattle ranch in the country. Trail rides are offered for all levels and feature breathtaking scenery of the pristine coastline.

WHALE WATCHING

Join the Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island on the ultimate marine life adventure! With a 100% viewing success rate, guests will enjoy the thrill of seeing whales, dolphins, turtles and seabirds in their natural environment.

HIKE THE TRAILS

Montauk is home to six state parks and a multitude of hiking trails providing endless opportunities for self-guided or tour-guided hikes. In the fall, a cool morning will give way to toasty afternoon in the sun, perfect for picnicking. End your evening with a warm beverage by the Gurney’s fire pit, we have blankets and heaters on hand for those extra chilly nights.
