Gurney’s Resorts has partnered with the Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program to deliver a custom youth education program at the Montauk resort as part of the new on-site Kids Club at Gurney’s Star Island.
Open to guests of Gurney’s Star Island and Gurney’s Montauk, and created for children ages 12 and under, the Cornell Cooperative Extension Marina Program at Gurney’s Star Island includes educational exhibits focused on impactful topics including water quality, habitat, aquaculture, STEAM, and fisheries. Each exhibit is housed on the first floor of the resort, including a touch tank and local species tank to create truly hands-on learning opportunities for guests and their families.
Cornell Cooperative Extension educators will be on site at Gurney’s Star Island five days per week from July through October to lead the instruction and guide young explorers through each exhibit. Throughout the duration of the program, Cornell educators will integrate field excursions throughout the property and host activities such as seining, caring for shellfish growing in the on-site FLUPSY, and getting involved in oyster reef restoration activities.
